Chris Leonard

Violin and Viola Teacher

My Story

Raised in Laramie, Wyoming, Chris began his studies in violin at the age of four with the String Academy of Wyoming under the guidance of Sherry Sinift. An avid chamber musician and performer, Chris holds positions with the Cheyenne Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, and Boulder Symphony. He received his Bachelor of Music and Performance Diploma from Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music under the tutelage of of Mimi Zweig and Grigory Kalinovksy, and hold a Masters Degree from Denver University Lamont School of Music under Linda Wang, where he was Linda’s head Graduate Assistant. Chris also specializes in String pedagogy where he studied with Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner. 

 

With a passion for teaching, Chris has served as teaching assistant for Indiana University Summer String Academy from 2015-2021. His teaching method focuses on a non-judgmental environment, and philosophies are based on those of Mimi Zweig, Shinichi Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Ivan Galamian.
